The table shows the changes in the preferences of people’s mode of travel in England between 1985 and 2000.

The form of transportation availed by the people of England had changed significantly for some modes of transport and marginally for others. There was an increase in the overall use of transportation in 2000.

The car was the most used mode of transport in 1985 and 2000. The least preferred mode of transport was a taxi in 1985, but its use rose noticeably in 2000. Another mode of transport that’s use grew remarkably in 2000 was the local distance bus. The use of train and other modes of transport also increased in 2000.

Although the change was relatively lower, the average distance travelled per person per year decreased from 255 miles in 1985 to 237 miles in 2000. The use of the bicycle followed the same trend with a decrease in the average distance travelled in 2000. The most notable fall in the travel statistics was for the local bus.
