Repudiate – Word of the Day
Meaning
(verb): Denial or Refusing to Accept; the word refers to reject or refuse any kind of action or support.
History:
History dates back to the 19th century. When the word ‘Repudiate’ was introduced as a word for rejection of things that someone doesn’t accept, it can either be an opinion or accusations/ allegations. The term is derived from the Latin word ‘Repudiatus, which means to cast off or put away.
Usage:
1. Verb Examples – Repudiate:
- As the bill is incorrect, Katy will definitely repudiate it.
- After the death of his parents, He repudiated to accept the responsibilities of the household.
- She repudiated a debt agreement which was signed an year ago.
- After the bond agreement was made, the buyer repudiated the deal.
- She repudiates the allegations that were put against her.
2. Noun Examples – Repudiation:
- The citizen’s repudiation against the new law was unexpected.
- My mother’s repudiation towards my sister’s relationship was horrid.
- There was a significant repudiation at the council regarding the sale of drugs.
- The commission couldn’t understand the judge’s repudiation, as he never adjourned the court before the final announcement.
- The motive behind his repudiation for the 10cr offer is still unknown.
3. Adjective Examples – Repudiated:
- She repudiated the agreement which the company offered to her.
- The United States had also repudiated Iran’s right to attack the town.
- The church authorities repudiated the law orders as they were hopeful of God.
- He repudiated his mistakes and later paid for them.
- He publicly repudiated the government policies.
