Sample Essay
There is a consensus among people that society benefits from the individual work of its members. But, there is a difference of opinion as far as the input of the artists and scientists are concerned. I agree with the common consent that society is uplifted by many individual efforts. In this essay, we will discuss both the agreement and the differences in the contribution of the aforementioned groups of people.
Whether we consider artists or scientists, both these groups of people have their own share of bestowal to the society. There are many examples of how a lot of public welfare and/or charity drives were conducted by artists in their hometowns. Recently, for instance, with the break of Dharavi’s underground rap music, many artists and performers try to give back to the community by building schools, roads, clinics, etc. Mumbai’s Dharavi, the largest slum area in the world, got a distinct recognition due to this, which is another explanation as to how individual accolades and achievements benefit society in general. This has had a cascading effect that has reverberated throughout India, as musicians from every nook and corner are getting acknowledged, and then they further go on to help their localities. In general, the underground music of India has gained recognition in other countries as well, who now view the country through the lens of affinity.
Scientific advancement, on the other hand, affects the entire world positively. For example, successful genome sequencing of various COVID-19 strains has helped innumerable studies and researches. Scientists across all paradigms, for example, space exploration, have exerted their best for humanity as a whole. It is projected that humans will set foot on Mars by 2030, which is a monumental milestone. This is another case of how advancement in science and the unsung efforts of scientists often goes under the radar. Unfortunately, the brains aren’t as popular as the brauns, and scientists don’t often get as much recognition as musicians, artists and actors. Still, without them, our lives would be nowhere near today’s iterations.
To summarise, individuals more often than not try to give back to the society which nurtured them and helped mold them into the person they are. Their win is seen as the society’s win, their celebrations seen as the entire society’s celebration. For instance, when Neeraj Chopra secured India’s first track and field gold in the Tokyo Olympics, entire India rejoiced. Hence, both artists’ and scientists’ achievements are exemplary in their own regard and it is an individual’s win that benefits society in general.
