Band 7 Sample Answer for Writing Task 2 Question – International Community Must Act Immediately to Reduce Consumption of Fossil Fuels
Fossil fuels, including coal, oil, and gas, have been decreasing recently, which concerns all countries as they look for alternatives to reduce their usage. Since excessive use harms humans and animals, I completely agree with the idea.
In the first place, using fossil fuels has a lot of drawbacks. Carbon dioxide, a poisonous gas released during gas combustion, directly impacts living things and contributes to global warming. Climate change has made the weather unpredictable these days. Also, the global community encourages all countries to minimise their reliance on fossil fuels due to the fact that these non-renewable energy sources will eventually run out. Thus, these authorities advise against using fossil fuels and instead recommend finding alternate options. According to a survey conducted by the Environment Department, Saudi Arabia’s oil and petrol production will peak in 2025 and the nation would lose its export potential.
The loss of the ozone layer is one of the most prominent disadvantages, and estimates indicate that it will most likely disappear by the next century. Scientific research indicates that if it disappeared, all animals would no longer be able to survive on Earth as a filter against the sun’s harmful rays. Put another way, there will be a complete extinction since our planet cannot withstand exposure to UV radiation. Moreover, a number of issues have emerged globally as a result of air pollution. Since the industrial century, there has been a sharp increase in skin diseases as well as lung infections.
To summarise, some people have suggested that international regulations should be imposed to control all nations in order to lessen the consequences of excessive fossil fuel use and I support this view. (278 words)

Band 8 Sample Answer for Writing Task 2 Question – International Community Must Act Immediately to Reduce Consumption of Fossil Fuels
It’s common knowledge that ensuring all countries minimize their use of fossil fuels like gas and oil is one of the international community’s most significant duties. From my perspective, I wholeheartedly agree with this notion and will discuss it in the following paragraphs.
First of all, one of the main points of contention in this debate is that the world community should be conducting this operation to reduce pollution. For instance, most industrialised nations, like India, which is among the world’s top coal producers, have significant pollution levels in their cities. As a result, many of their citizens frequently experience respiratory issues. It implies that these issues can be mitigated by engaging in certain activities that decrease the usage of fossil fuels. They will let you down in the near future as well. This clarifies why fossil fuel consumption should be decreased.
Secondly, safeguarding wildlife is also essential, particularly for threatened or endangered species like tigers and pandas. The fact that our cars utilise fossil fuels could put all creatures in grave danger. They would go extinct as a result of this. Therefore, by passing legislation mandating a reduction in the use of fossil fuels, the global society can establish a haven for all living things. Also, most people should choose to use bicycles and public transportation over driving their cars.
In conclusion, I firmly feel that gas and oil extraction need to be restricted if not completely stopped. It is anticipated that by carrying out this operation, our planet will soon develop a peaceful environment ideal for habitation. (259 words)

Band 9 Sample Answer for Writing Task 2 Question – International Community Must Act Immediately to Reduce Consumption of Fossil Fuels
Unlock Answers
Firstly, burning fossil fuels releases harmful greenhouse gasses, contributing significantly to global warming. It has led to drastic consequences like rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and threats to biodiversity. For instance, polar ice caps are melting, endangering polar bears and other Arctic species. Secondly, developing renewable energy sources is crucial for a sustainable future. Countries like Denmark and Sweden have made commendable progress in harnessing wind and solar power, reducing their reliance on fossil fuels. By emulating their success, nations can create a cleaner, greener energy landscape.
Thirdly, reducing fossil fuel consumption aligns with economic benefits. Investments in renewable energy not only mitigate environmental risks but also stimulate job growth in the green energy sector. Germany’s transition to renewable energy, known as the “Energiewende,” has not only reduced carbon emissions but also created numerous jobs in the renewable energy industry. Finally, many countries still provide significant subsidies to the fossil fuel industry, distorting market forces and hindering the growth of renewable energy. Redirecting this assistance toward clean energy initiatives would encourage the transition from fossil fuels.
To sum up, the urgency of the climate crisis necessitates immediate action to curb fossil fuel consumption. By transitioning to viable alternatives, nations can alleviate the adverse effects of climate change, foster economic growth, and pave the way for a healthier planet. Therefore, in my opinion, the international community must unite in this endeavor to ensure a sustainable and secure future for all. (292 words)
