Sample Essay
These days innovation is progressively being utilized to screen what individuals are saying and doing. There may be some of them, like mobile phone monitoring and video surveillance, that pose a security risk. This essay will state my viewpoints on both advantages and disadvantages of technological advancements.
As a result of the innovation of technology, we have experienced an improvement in our day-to-day lives. Firstly, a wide range of industries relies upon technology, including medicine, industrial science, research, and telecommunications. Secondly, security agencies also use these technological advancements. Security cameras are used by the police nowadays to monitor suspects and to take effective actions immediately against them. Consequently, the criminal rate is meant to decline. Thirdly, GPS technology integrated into modern smartphones can be useful for locating a lost person. Moreover, many smart devices are available which warn us when someone is in trouble.
On the contrary, technology can occasionally pose serious problems for individual citizens. The right to privacy is violated whenever one’s life events are intruded upon without consent. Occasionally, such monitoring may cause problems. For instance, while trial rooms have CCTV cameras to prevent shoplifting, most customers don’t realize they are being monitored and become victims of cyber extortion. Emotionally, you might consider it a major setback. Data breaches, such as those involving bank records or property, can result in cybercrime. The identity of an individual’s bank account can today be used to transfer funds to a criminal’s account.
To summarize, technology has greatly improved our lives and drastically reduced the number of criminal cases in our neighborhood. In my opinion, the numerous benefits that this practice brings outweigh the few disadvantages. There will be more room for technology to develop which will more than offset the few disadvantages brought by this advancement.
Band 9 Sample Essay
In today’s rapidly evolving world, the utilization of technology to monitor what people say and do is becoming more common. Although it is irrefutable that surveillance helps the government identify criminals, it also violates the right to privacy. Therefore, the following essay will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of technology breakthroughs and elucidate why the advantages outweigh their disadvantages.
To begin with, CCTV cameras are quite common in shopping malls, departmental stores, and other public places as they assist managers in keeping an eye on their employees. As a result, employees who are aware of the monitoring work efficiently, and shoplifting is frequently averted or caught on CCTV footage. Similarly, if a person works for a travel agency, the supervisors can track the employees using GPS to prevent fake check-ins. In addition, the presence of video surveillance activities has assisted the police in preventing and investigating criminal activities. Moreover, with the help of sophisticated satellite tracking technology, the police apprehend the criminals by tracking their calls and locating them via signals, strengthening law and order. Undoubtedly, technology has been helping to curb crime rates.
In contrast, monitoring technology will indeed infringe on people’s privacy. As a result, people’s rights are frequently violated because of CCTV surveillance and spying. For instance, surveillance cameras are used to capture people in humiliating situations such as stealing or shoplifting or murder. Moreover, when a private conversation between two people is intercepted by cell phone tracking, the results are frequently unfavourable. Therefore, tracking people without their knowledge does not always work in their favor because such people hold a high value on their personal space.
To sum up, the government employs modern technology to monitor the actions of its citizens. And in many circumstances, these surveillance activities are not disclosed to the public, leading some to assume that they’re in violation of human privacy policy. Although, there are a few risks associated with being monitored without being aware of it, the presence of CCTV in public places and satellite tracking of mobile phones provides substantial benefits to humanity when used effectively. Thus, the significant advantages outweigh its disadvantages.
